San Diego is one of America’s most popular tourist destinations, and for good reason. Here, you’ll find incredibly famous attractions like the San Diego Zoo and the USS Midway Museum, in addition to all the incredible food, diverse culture, and gorgeous sunshine. The California weather is great all year long, but when exactly is the best time to visit San Diego? Read on to discover the weather trends for whatever season you’ll be visiting our San Diego vacation rentals.
Fall
Autumn is a great season to visit San Diego when the weather is still warm but isn’t nearly as taxing as the summer heat. During September, October, and November, average high temperatures range in the 70s and lows stay in the 50s and 60s. This is a phenomenal season to enjoy all the outdoor activities during the day and then relax in your rental or go out on the town when the sun goes down.
There’s no need to bring an umbrella during your fall San Diego vacation. Average rainfall in the autumn months is one inch or less, so you don’t have to worry about any of your plans being rained out.
Winter
While a large portion of the U.S. is experiencing bitter cold, San Diego sees moderate winters. The months of December, January, and February see highs around the mid-60s and lows in the 50s. These temperatures may be a bit cooler than you’d expect from California, but they’re certainly a lot better than many other destinations during this time of year!
Winter is the middle of the rainy season for San Diego, but there’s not much to worry about. Average rainfall for these three months hits around 2 inches per month, so while you may experience a light shower, there’s no need to derail all your plans. Just bring a light jacket and you’re good to go!
Spring
When the plants start to wake up, San Diego starts experiencing a bit more heat in the spring months. March, April, and May bring high temperatures in the high 60s and lows in the 50s. This may not seem like a huge jump from the winter temperatures, but those few degrees make a difference! This is a great season to experience San Diego weather and all the new growth in the area.
Rainfall isn’t a huge issue in the spring. March still sees around 1-2 inches of rain, but April and May see significantly less rain as San Diego moves into the dry season. You may just have to plan some extra time in your rental or take advantage of one of the city’s many indoor attractions.
Summer
California summers aren’t as brutal as you might expect when you’re in San Diego. The average weather in San Diego for June, July, and August bring highs in the 70s and lows in the 60s. Summer is the best time of year to visit if you want to hit the beach or pool since the water stays around 70 degrees. You may experience more humidity in the summer, though.
Summer is the dry season here, so there’s absolutely no reason to worry about ruined plans. The summer months rarely see even an inch of rain, and while the locals may complain, it makes for a pleasant vacation! Just be sure to conserve water where you can if you’re visiting in summer.
San Diego is one of the most pleasant destinations in California with pleasant weather all year long.
